Ransack @ Fort Canning puzzle hunt

I managed to get a free ticket during the #TeamUpEdition promotion for Ransack @ Fort Canning puzzle hunt. Since they are having a half-price promotion for June 2022 and on Spark Connections, here’s my review for anyone interested.

All 4 games and respective souvenir pins. I played the Fort Canning one.

Reviewer details: Experienced adult player, played multiple escape rooms and similar puzzle games before. First time joining any of Ransack’s puzzle hunts.

  • Ticket price is per person, not per group. This includes a puzzle booklet and a souvenir pin for each player. The puzzle hunt can be played solo or in small groups.
  • The materials are in English only.
  • I would consider the difficulty level to be relatively easy. I only had problems with 1 of the 8 puzzles. There are printed instructions on how to find and combine the clues, and a hint page on the back that allows you to check some of the answers. This is much easier than most escape rooms, which have no instructions, leaving you to figure out on your own how to extract the answer from the clues.
  • Puzzle design reminds me of SCRAP’s Real Escape Game, especially since some origami folding is required. SCRAP also did some on-site REGs before, like “Last Garden” and “Escape from the Conspiracy”. Of course, Ransack’s puzzle hunt is a lot easier than the notoriously difficult REGs!
  • The area to explore is not very big and our group was able to finish within two hours, including time taken to solve the puzzles. My group included senior citizens, and other groups had children too. Physically it is not too difficult, just some walking and stair-climbing.
  • The game masters will give you hints if you are unable to solve the puzzles. The souvenir pin is awarded for the correct final answer, but since it is included in the ticket, they will help you get it. But since the fun of the game lies in solving the puzzles, don’t be too hasty to ask for help.
  • The locations chosen are all historical areas of Singapore, and the puzzles are based on historical and natural landmarks in those areas. It’s a good way to tour the area, learn a few things and get some exercise.
